Incompatible and outdated drivers are often the reason behind a non-functioning sound system. Do not worry if your sound does not work when you upgrade your operating system to Windows 10. You can easily update drivers. Here is how you do it:
First Step: Make Sure the Problem is with The Driver
Before you do anything, it is recommended that you make sure it is really only the audio drivers where the problem is. Follow the steps below to have a look at the status of your current audio driver and confirm that it is a driver problem:
- Open Run dialogue box by either looking it up in the Start Menu or pressing Windows and R keys together.
- Once opened, type the command devmgmt.msc in the Run search bar.
- Device Manager window will have opened. Find Sound, video and game controllers from the list and expand to see more options. You have to look for Realtek High Definition Audio with either a simple sound icon or a yellow caution mark on the sound icon as shown in the screenshot. If you see the latter, it means that the problem is with the driver and it needs to be updated.
Second Step: Download New Realtek Driver
Once you have made sure that it is the audio driver that has a problem, you can proceed with manually downloading new ones.
Realtek’s website will have audio drivers easily accessible and downloadable for its users. They released them some time before Windows 10 was launched so you do not have to worry about not being able to find them.
You will be required to enter whether your Windows 10 is 32-bit or 64-bit in order to get the right driver. Be patient and wait for them to download; click on the downloaded driver and follow on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
This should help you with your sound problem. Share with your friends to help them!
